The unique format of the event allows for winning teams to move up to the next division, while last place team drop a division. Bragging rights are on the line and it is the only truly team event on our schedule each year.
OVGA INTERSECTIONAL RULES
ELIGIBILITY
A player must be a member with full privileges at his Club and his Club must be a member in good standing of the OVGA/GQ. This would include Weekday, Senior, Junior and Intermediate members, but would NOT INCLUDE out of town or deferred membership or non-playing categories. The Senior Intersectional Team must include five players from the 55-64 age group, five players who are 65 plus and two alternates 60 years of age or up. Women's Senior Intersectional Team must include four players 50 and over, two players from the 55-64 age group and one player 65 or over.
RULES
The RCGA Rules of Golf, especially those governing match play will be in effect.
FORMAT
The format of play is singles matches, with each player playing three separate matches simultaneously. Players start on the first tee in order of the listing on the draw, with the player from the host club teeing off first
ALTERNATES
Alternate players included on the team list submitted to the OVGA office by the entry date, MAY be substituted onto the Team IF:
(a) members of the team do not show AND
(b) substitutions are made before the first group tees off at 11AM or any revised start time approved by the OVGA Office prior to the event.
NOTE: ONCE THE TEAM LIST HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY THE OVGA OFFICE, NO CHANGES TO THE TEAM LISTS ARE ALLOWED.
A maximum of two alternates for the Regular and Senior Mens Intersectionals are allowed, a maximum of one alternate for the Womens and Senior Womens Intersectionals are permitted. The Senior Mens Intersectional alternate shall be 60 years of age or older, the Senior Womens Intersectional alternate shall be 50 years of age or older.
Alternates may be substituted onto the Team according to their handicap indexes if the aforementioned criteria have been met.
The alternate must be positioned as his Club's lowest player at his particular handicap index. (ie later starting time)
Alternates not substituted onto their Club Teams will tee off ahead of the Club Matches.
SCORING
Each player plays three matches over 18 holes with two points for a win, one point for a tie and zero points for a loss. TIES
Should two teams be tied at the conclusion of an Intersectional Match, the tie is broken as follows;
(a) The matches played between the two tied teams are considered, with the team having the greater number of points in these matches being the winner.
(b) If the teams are still tied after (a), the individual matches between the tied teams, starting with the lowest handicap players (i.e., the last to tee off) are considered on a sudden-win basis until the tie is broken.
TERMINATION BECAUSE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER OR DARKNESS
a) Absolutely every effort will be made to ensure that all matches are completed, due to the impossibility of rescheduling the competition
b) Any matches that have not completed the stipulated round will be decided by the standing in the match at the last hole completed
c) Should teams be tied at the termination of play, the placing will be decided by the formula set out in the Intersectional Guidelines
OVGA INTERSECTIONAL GUIDELINES
UNLESS OTHERWISE DETERMINED BY THE OVGA TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE, THE CLUB FINISHING 2ND IN EACH SECTION WILL HOST THE FOLLOWING YEAR. IN "A" DIVISION CLUBS FINISHING FIRST WILL HOST THE FOLLOWIN YEAR. NO CLUB CAN HOST FOR MORE THAN TWO (2) CONSECUTIVE YEARS.
THE HOST CLUB:
Ensures that time is reserved for the event in the Club Calendar and that its entry is forwarded to the OVGA by the entry deadline.
Determines tee & pin placements for day of event based on a maximum distance of 6400 yards (as determined by Golf Quebec for all GQ Events) and ensuring 6 easy, 6 medium and 6 hard pin placements.
Provides an opportunity for a practice round for players from other teams in their section.
Generally provides a gap between normal play and the tournament by closing the 1st tee 15 to 20 minutes in advance of the scheduled 11am start time.
Traditionally provides light refreshments for the match participants at the end of the matches.
Has a representative meet with the OVGA Official on the morning of the event to review the condition of the course and the local rules to be used keeping in mind that the policy of the OVGA is to "Play the ball as it lies".
Ensures that its Team Captain/Representative is available for a meeting at 10:30 am or 1/2 hour before the scheduled start time for the event, with Team Captains/Representatives and the OVGA Official.
Ensures that its team competitors are available by 10:30 am or 1/2 hour before the scheduled start time and adhere to the OVGA DRESS CODE.
VISITING CLUBS:
ARE THE CLUBS WHO FINISHED 3RD AND STAY IN THEIR SECTION, 4TH IN THE NEXT HIGHER SECTION AND 1ST IN THE NEXT LOWER DIVISION EXCEPT IN "A" SECTION WHERE THE TEAMS FINISHING 1ST, 2ND & 3RD REMAIN IN THEIR SECTION.
THE VISITING CLUBS:
Ensure that their team lists are forwarded to the OVGA by the entry deadline.
Ensure that their Team Captains/Representatives are available for a meeting at 10:30am or 1/2 hour before the scheduled start for the event, with the OVGA Official.
Ensure that their team players and alternates are available by 10:30am or 1/2 hour before the scheduled start time for the event adhering to the OVGA DRESS CODE.
The OVGA Intersectionals are one of the most exciting team oriented events on the schedule each year. Participating clubs play head to head in a matchplay event with accumulated points determining the ultimate winner of each event.
